anyone got a good recommendation for a whetstone/sharpener? Mine broke.. :/

2021-01-05 05:14:58 UTC

Oof rip

2021-01-05 05:15:56 UTC

Not exactly a recommendation but I use the Worksharp guided field sharpener. Not very big for sure but hey it works <:kek:731354627806593055>

2021-01-05 05:16:19 UTC

Would like to get something bigger if I ever get the chance

2021-01-05 05:29:33 UTC

thanks. Ye, i feel the same. my old stone was rather small to begin with, so i have always wanted a large table stone.

2021-01-05 05:36:28 UTC

i also want to look at ceramic stones, cause my old one still left some big scratches that took forever to strop out, if I even felt like trying. <:KEK:795742276549607456>

Ceramic of whetstone, or ceramic over diamond? I heard diamond was usually recommended over whetstone for casual sharpening since they are generally more efficient I think; at least easier to use. Idk, that's what I've heard anyway

2021-01-05 13:35:21 UTC

Im not necessarily looking for the most efficient thing, I'm just wanting to get a good fine-grit stone so that I can repair edges. idk what type of stone to get though and didnt even realize diamond was a thing. :\

How do ya'll feel about sharpening on a dry stone? I usually oil mine towards the end of the sharpening process, but I honestly am really lazy and tend to not oil in the beginning of a sharpening session. I just find it easier to clean the metal filings off a surface when its dry. Obviously, you hit a point where it only damages the blade/stone more than not, but do ya'll thing its acceptable to keep it dry for the initially reshaping strokes, or should it be avoided?

2021-01-05 14:39:04 UTC

See, with diamond you don't have to wrry about that xD

2021-01-05 14:39:44 UTC

You can wet diamond stones, but it usually doesn't make a big difference. You can use them dry without a problem

2021-01-05 18:25:37 UTC

ooh nice. :)

2021-01-05 18:27:28 UTC

just put a new edge on my ontario. its not perfect and the belly could use some more work, but the straight portion is low-key sharper than its ever been. I only had about an inch of stone too. <:KEK:795742276549607456>

2021-01-05 18:30:46 UTC

I wish. It’s a volunteer in an organization that does it

2021-01-05 18:31:44 UTC

We pair with forestry or local PD and act as grunts while the higher ups do more admin work

2021-01-05 18:31:59 UTC

Gives PD a break

2021-01-05 18:32:06 UTC

oh cool, that sounds awesome

2021-01-05 18:32:19 UTC

Yea it’s pretty fun.

2021-01-05 18:33:21 UTC

2021-01-05 18:34:45 UTC

I got mad respect for the guys that can do that

2021-01-05 18:35:51 UTC

Yea it takes some commitment

2021-01-06 05:43:52 UTC

They can’t because of civilians.

2021-01-06 05:49:14 UTC

they'll just label rebels as terrorist so they can legally use whatever. I doubt they'll do strafing runs with A-10s, but dont think for a second they wont at least use a couple drone strikes. Not to mention they can literally track a militias every movement with drone surveillance. I doubt a 1776 v.2 would last more than a few weeks if the military took the gov.'s side.

2021-01-06 15:11:53 UTC

True

2021-01-06 15:12:09 UTC

But there could be good people in the military that disobey

2021-01-06 17:23:54 UTC

I dont think it would be so short

2021-01-06 17:24:18 UTC

They would have to purge a good half of the population into submission

2021-01-06 19:05:08 UTC

there would not be enough trader troops to fight us.
