anyone else wish that CV-6 AKA the USS Enterprise was saved and turned into a museum ship instead of being scrapped?
Yes
She did so much
it would have been awesome to be on the most battle tested and decorated ship in US navy history
her track record is awesome to say the least
the amount of capital and non capital ships she took down
while taking part in like every major operation and engagement in the pacific
being the only operational capital ship we had in the pacific at one point
survived heavy damage nearly sinking only to pull through at least 3 times
being the only ship in her class to survive the war
the Enterprise was a badass ship
shame that she got scrapped
Still a better fate than getting nuked
yeah RIP prinz eugen and all the other ships in that test
didn't those ships get nuked twice or something?
Some did
damn
i also think ships like KMS Bismarck,HMS Warspite,HMS Hood,USS Laffy were badass
Alot of ships were nuked durikg hydrogen bomb testings, then some survived a few of the tests they were subjugated to, then purposefully shot afterwards
USS Laffy (a destroyer) and her crew took on multiple enemy ships including the battleship IJN Hiei and put up a hell of a fight
Yeah
they should have been preserved cause they're a part of history
imagine being on a destroyer and taking on a battleship along with a few cruisers alone with no support
at night too
Taffy 3
But oh well, no one at the time really seen it important enough to preserve most of the shit from ww2, best we can do is build replica's
yeah it kinda sucks
i would be livid if someone was stupid enough to destroy the USS Constitution
History is rarely thought of at the moment it happens, it usually is taken note of decades after it happens
that ship is almost as old as the US itself
yeah
Its why so many P-51's and Sherman tanks qere scrapped afted they became redundant
the USS Constitution is the only wind and sail Warship still afloat
destroying it would be like if Russia destroyed the VMF Avora
(one of the only pre-dreadnaught ships still in existence)
it's also the oldest ship Russia has afloat it survived the battle of Fushima, the Reigns of both the Tsar and the USSR,the entirety of WW2 and the cold war right up until today
i think she's a light cruiser
Well, at least the USS Lexington is still around, oldest american carrier still in existence and was about as successful as the Enterprise, just not talked about much
i thought the Lexington was sank at the battle of the coral sea?
or am i thinking of a different Carrier
