But the YF23 also had a lot of fees to consider and the fact that YF23 didn't do any weapons testing made F-22 more appealing

2020-11-16 13:58:37 UTC

The yf23 still is an amazing aircraft on par or superior to the yf22

2020-11-16 13:58:37 UTC

plus consider the fact that F-22 doesn't use Silica tiles to hide its exhaust signature

@Identity crisis the plane Maybe more agile, but more expensive and hangar queen to maintain

2020-11-16 13:59:21 UTC

The f22 was more agile actually

2020-11-16 13:59:35 UTC

F22 had thrust vectoring and was smaller

2020-11-16 13:59:36 UTC

Heard the other way around

2020-11-16 13:59:36 UTC

Yess the 55.86 is a Majical machine

2020-11-16 14:00:02 UTC

The yf23 was stealthier, faster and had better range but wasn't as agile

2020-11-16 14:00:35 UTC

"better range"<:KEK:726877368601411624>

2020-11-16 14:00:48 UTC

Have you heard of Super cruise?

2020-11-16 14:01:01 UTC

Yf23 and yf22 had supercruise

2020-11-16 14:01:30 UTC

Yf23 supercruise is faster than f16 on full afterburner

2020-11-16 14:01:37 UTC

> Yf23 and yf22 had supercruise
@Identity crisis the plane Never heard of YF23 having it, last I knew it used a different engine with no supercruise

2020-11-16 14:01:53 UTC

The requirement was supercruise for both planes

2020-11-16 14:02:04 UTC

Interesting...

2020-11-16 14:02:12 UTC

The yf23 has supercruise

2020-11-16 14:02:21 UTC

so there was media black out for YF23...

2020-11-16 14:02:41 UTC

I'm not sure

2020-11-16 14:03:11 UTC

You just said YF 23 had Supercruise and both planes were supposed to have it

2020-11-16 14:03:26 UTC

meanwhile my sources state that only F-22 has it

2020-11-16 14:03:33 UTC

What source

2020-11-16 14:03:46 UTC

which is not only peculiar, but also strange

2020-11-16 14:04:20 UTC

It had the same engine as the f22, yf119

2020-11-16 14:04:33 UTC

And the yf120

2020-11-16 14:04:45 UTC

Both yf23 and yf22 had those engines

2020-11-16 14:05:07 UTC

> What source
@Identity crisis the plane I search a lot in the Military forums and blogs

2020-11-16 14:05:59 UTC

The yf23 engine was made to supercruise, pratt & Whitley f119

2020-11-16 14:06:30 UTC

I mean, what I heard was that the YF 23 used a non super cruise engine in testing, but you said that the super cruise was a requirement, so it conflicts with my sources making them the liars

2020-11-16 14:07:06 UTC

There were 2 yf23 prototypes, they both had different engines

2020-11-16 14:07:32 UTC

I know there were 2 of them, both are museum pieces now

2020-11-16 14:07:43 UTC

The yf120 engine couldn't supercruise which was on one of the prototypes

2020-11-16 14:08:03 UTC

Same with the f22

2020-11-16 14:08:15 UTC

Ah so one was cheaper to maintain technically

2020-11-16 14:08:34 UTC

but ultimately 119 was chosen

2020-11-16 14:08:46 UTC

Yes because it was a more capable engine

2020-11-16 14:09:23 UTC

While 119 is more expensive, it does have the fuel efficiency benefit

2020-11-16 14:09:52 UTC

I think the 120 was just a placeholder for the 119 because the 120 couldn't supercruise

2020-11-16 14:10:24 UTC

I could be wrong

2020-11-16 14:11:40 UTC

You're correct, 120 couldn't super cruise but it was more reliable since it uses the same parts as 119 without the Super cruise impeller

2020-11-16 14:12:08 UTC

So the guys in the forums are talking about the yf23 with 120s then
