We clean off salt and seaweed, not really algae

makes sense. I guess the ocean doesnt have a lot of that. We had quite a bit of algae in the spring-fed rivers in Texas. every lake I have ever put a kayak into also had a lot of algae. :/

I have mono on, but I reckon braid would work fine on this because there isnt a line guide

Braid is more abrasion resistant, which is good because Jack’s will wrap you up in pilings or cut you off on ocean drop offs

Do you know how many pounds of drag?

no, but I think it needs some work. It sat in my great-grandma's shed with the drag almost on full for more than ten years. It feels weak for a 3/0 imo
