Any one that takes 556 will also take 223?

As someone said earlier. 5.56 is a higher power round geared towards military use. While technically the same round it is different enough to where shooting them through a .223 rated firearm it may damage the gun. The same goes for 7.62 and .308 rounds.

The difference of the rifle is usually just the barrel and bolt assembly

@Nope, if you can get your hands on one, the most accurate AR I ever shot was a colt. That said, probably any name-brand manufacture is going to make something decent. Check out Ruger or Smith and Wesson if your looking for something more affordable. Hope this helps somewhat. :/
