Well I'd be more terrified of the dragon hands down. They're extremely efficient runners.
A monitor lizard can run up a hill faster than your average Joe can down it.
They are somewhat social too right? So odds are, it wouldn't be alone?
Eh I'm not sure how social they are. They're probably like crocodiles when it comes to that. In videos I've seen of them being in groups it's always when they're eating something.
Or someone <:troll_face:726878856585281557>
Similar, most images/videos I've seen are of them in groups
Oh π© then
Reptiles don't pack hunt. However, they can eat something together. Doesn't mean there won't be fighting and competition.
I mean their main diet are deer. Not exactly a slow animal.
Yeah. That's why I said they're efficient runners. Even better ambush predators.
Brrr
Because they likely don't run things down outright. They ambush it, bite it and eat it right away if it's a smaller animal *or* if it's a larger animal they wait for the venom to take effect and then they feast.
yeah thats not terrifying at all
They also have a great sense of smell. So even if you're a mile away they'd know you're there ready for the picking.
Once the prey is dead.
Oh and btw they have an extinct cousin that's just shy of 25 feet
How long ago did it go extinct?
And can we resurrect the species by accident like the salt water sea snake?
It's been extinct for 50,000 years.
Well the salt water sea snake went "extinct" from sharks
And once we reduced the shark population in the ocean they re-emerged.
There's this fish that they thought went extinct with the dinosaurs and they found it just vibin in the ocean.
Currently though the species only grows to a meter or two or something like that. But reptiles are notorious for only growing as large as the environment permits them....
Titanoboa
And these things live in the ocean...
Insects even used to be much bigger than they are now.
That has more to do with oxygen levels in the atmosphere though
If the oxygen content was higher, they would be bigger. Well as far as arachnids go, anyway
Yeah. There was the meganeura that was the size of a falcon.
Yeah titanboa made the anaconda look like a gardener snake in comparison yeah?
Channel you're inner Samuel Jackson, snakes on a plane.
The largest individuals could grow to 48 feet
Yikes
It's good to know that all that stuff is extinct.
Or so we believe
Don't kill my optimism lol
There are still plenty of places that modern humans haven't completely explored for one reason or another. There is a small section of forest in central America that no roads go through. Lots of myths about why the transcontinental road was stopped there
I cite the discovery of the Kraken squid thing that is larger than the giant squid by far.
Ocean stuff makes the most sense considering how unexplored it still is.
Deep Amazon Forrest too
