It's not irrelevant in the slightest. Both movements cause and endorse violence. Both movements are very extreme and both movements are causing great harm to people. They're not exactly the same (and ISIS is obviously worse due to being more powerful), but both organisations are in the same boat, as far as this issue is concerned. If you commit violence against citizens, you cannot complain when they do it back. By that logic, all self defense is an aggressive attack.
