Due to how in his own party, Lincoln had grown many enemies as he had refused to severely punish the South for rebelling against the North/West, and so what if someone in the Republican Party shortly before the election of 1865 persuaded John Wilks Booth to assassinate Lincoln in an attempt for the radical republicans to takeover the Republican Party and severely punish the South for its transgressions

because the shift of power in the Republican Party was way to sudden, and it was found out that John Wilks Booth had no connection to the then former leaders of the Confederate States of America
