These are the nightmares and dreamscapes of Polish surrealist Zdzislaw Beksinski. He grew up during the German occupation of Poland in WWII, and the atrocities he saw inspired his work. The painting with the figure in a blue robe is meant to represent death. The color used is Prussian blue, which is a bi-product of the gasses used in death camps to kill millions. The doors of the gas chambers are similarly colored cause of the bi-product.

Death wears a blue robe, God is a planet with a cloak, Notre Dame is made of flesh. These are his visions.

All of Beksinski's works are untitled, and he despised anyone who tried to apply meaning to his work, stating on record as being "anti-meaning". He was killed in 2005 over a rent dispute when one of the people renting space from him stabbed him 17 times.

All in all, Beksinski helped surrealism in both painting and photography become a legitimate genre of art, and has been hailed as H.R. Giger's eastern equivalent.
