there were 2 versions of the SR71, one that was a supersonic interceptor and the other a stealth spy jet

he said it was the coolest thing ever to see them take off from the catapult with afterburners and all

which, yeah there are probably good reasons why the the interceptor version never really entered service, cuz the platform already was pretty expensive to build as well as to maintain because of warping in the hull at supersonic speeds that caused fuel leaks
