Problem is that my main characters always die mid way through the plot

My English teacher had to remove a piece that I did about a corrupt government take over a few years back when I was in school and posted it to my school sponsored writing blog. It had a scene she hated where the villain torched a the main character alive, then set fire to a hospital. The main character lived, but basically no one else did. @TheCraziestOregonian
