🤔

For the zoomers:
You got a machine, ancient code, but machine works fine.
Now machine has a probem, but it isn't produced anymore.
So would you rather buy a new machine, maybe even gotta replace the extending machines, maybe even the whole complex, or hire some dipshit to fix your ancient code so machine works as always?

probably explains why companies haven't started adopting EYPC en-masse tbh

2018-09-04 01:39:31 UTC

adopting != replacing your server farm

2018-09-04 01:39:31 UTC

I heard you can easily migrate from older to newer xeons with minimal downtime

2018-09-04 01:39:42 UTC

err, migrating*

2018-09-04 01:39:43 UTC

EPYC is actually very succesfull right now

2018-09-04 01:40:57 UTC

And as server continue to grow in demand(speed) and older sockets becoming useless, EPYC will be even more succesfull

2018-09-04 01:41:15 UTC

It's just not a vibrant market as any consumer plattform

@xxxxx i’m east coast in the usa. i don’t see myself going back to college unless it was for a phd, most phd programs get enough funding to pay the students loans and get like a $500/month stipend. I’m working on my digital(embedded) for about 2 more months and have 2 killa projects then work up on my analog knowledge. looking to apply to startups in about 2-3 months/or asking some old-fags to be their apprentice like bunnie huang or forest mins

2018-09-04 01:50:07 UTC

What degree do you hold currently?

2018-09-04 01:50:23 UTC

electrical and computer engineering

2018-09-04 01:50:50 UTC

Master/bachelor...

2018-09-04 01:50:57 UTC

bache

Ah

2018-09-04 01:51:18 UTC

Are start ups less of a meme over there?

2018-09-04 01:51:30 UTC

its all a meme

2018-09-04 01:52:52 UTC

2018-09-04 01:55:09 UTC

as for what is in demand, fullstack web-developer

2018-09-04 01:55:45 UTC

you can learn how to do it in 3-6 months and take a position in any major city

2018-09-04 01:56:31 UTC

Urgh

2018-09-04 01:56:41 UTC

or work towards remote positions or starting ur own app or managing like 2-3 small biz’s website

2018-09-04 01:57:06 UTC

There's the part in me that wants to agree, then again web dev is a big bubble and most are already aware of it

2018-09-04 01:57:11 UTC

type in nyc engineering into any job search engine.

2018-09-04 01:58:10 UTC

ah got it. So it's the IT jobs nobody wants 😄

2018-09-04 01:58:21 UTC

IT has its levels

2018-09-04 01:58:24 UTC

so EE is generally saturated, would you say?

2018-09-04 01:58:34 UTC

its like both

2018-09-04 01:58:51 UTC

most EE’s go the route of consulting or systems engineering

2018-09-04 01:59:19 UTC

which is like using autocad to draw lines in space or some 3d software to draw the electrical lines from this box to that box

2018-09-04 02:00:00 UTC

hat part is saturated cause ur using day 1 bread and butter ee ohms law: V=IR

2018-09-04 02:00:35 UTC

anything beyond they want a shit load of experience or a supreme hunger to learn

2018-09-04 02:01:25 UTC

>most EE

2018-09-04 02:01:47 UTC

but you’ll have an easy life

2018-09-04 02:01:48 UTC

I see...

2018-09-04 02:01:58 UTC

It does sound even more boring than IT though
