The best part is learning how to play and seeing what works. After you figure it out and build a few fascist nations, some aspects of the gameplay do get a little repetitive. Definitely worth playing though.

I don't believe so, but if there's riots, you can build a military base and dispel them. Additionally, you can open and close the borders at will. Can also build refugee camps because the refugees will ruin your neighborhoods.

I actually haven't done a playthrough with no immigration though. Generally you want poor people to work in the mines so I usually open my borders up to get some population growth.
