In Switzerland welfare is a debt

an interest free debt, but still a debt

and you only get it for a few years, depending on how long you've worked

that's why you can also deny welfare if you don't have a job but enough money

because once you do get a job again, you have to pay it back with at least a set percentage from your earnings

I think you get a few months 'free' though because it's normal you have to search for a job sometimes
