why I don't consider this setup sane: anything that doesn't or can't use JACK while you are doing this will not produce sound, and video will not play if the player can't use JACK

so yeah

better option would be to connect your soundcard/mic to a laptop with JACK or whatever and have it's line out connected to your main pc
