so
fuck im so bad at explaining
use your old router in bridging mode in the same spot
maybe I'm retarded who knows
that's actually what i'm doing
and it's not working
wew
so i think i need to get an ac1200 extender afaik
that makes no sense though
just wanted to sanity check and you seem as stumped as i am so i think it's worth a shot
if it works before it should work now. the extender makes no sense.
it's almost never a good idea.
i might be maxing out the old router
is what i'm worried about
no way.
because if the theoretical limit is 80 let's say
if i had 30 before i would have no way to know that 80 was the limit
didn't you say you get "great speeds" with your phone
doesn't that kill that theory right there
yes but the phone is connected to the downstairs router
even the cheapest crap broadcom mips chips
basically i fucking hate networking
that doesn't change your problem
wait are you running two different SSIDs or just one
with both routers
and are you setting them both to auto-channel
i think you're not being methodical and organized so you're trying random shit and being frustrated
which happens
i've been there
we then try to wave a magic wallet wand to make the problem go away but it won't
(well, if you upgrade to 802.11ac, maybbe)
i recently upgraded to a powerline adapter
works gr8 m8
i'm on 802.11n for half of my house
or or
use a MoCA bridge
they're cheap
i've solved my own wifi problem by throwing the wallet wand at it
but the rest of my family get shit speeds and i'm the designated tech monkey so i need to fix it
i think i'll try an extender and if it doesn't work i'll be methodical
