The earth's atmosphere is *already introduced* to the vacuum of space, though. Gas doesn't fly around willy nilly in a vacuum at all times.

The container argument isn't analogous to the atmosphere. The earth's atmospheric pressure is due to its *weight* on the earth. Not the same thing as gas pressure in a container.
