the reason why the atmosphere doesn't get stripped off of the earth is because of a pressure gradient

You can even measure the pressure gradient, ask guys who have climbed Everest. It’s also why planes can’t go past certain altitudes without special equipment or design, they’ll stall due to lack of air pressure.
