An undercover operation by the Howard County Police Department resulted in the arrest of six men on solicitation of prostitution and related charges, police said.

The would-be johns were busted at a hotel in the 8100 block of Washington Boulevard in Jessup, police said. Detectives placed fake ads on websites known as places used for prostitution, leaving a number for interested parties to call. Men who dialed the number talked to an undercover female officer who suggested the meeting point upon the interested client's request.

When the men arrived at the hotel and offered money for sex, they were arrested and charged with solicitation of prostitution and disorderly conduct, police said. Those arrested were: Kenneth Ballard, 53, of Princess Anne; Alexander Collins, 30, of Crofton; Nigal Khan, 33, of Beltsville; Thong Nun, 35, of Ellicott City; Pierre Raymond, 27, of Beltsville; and Daoning Zhang, 44, of Columbia.

The sting was part of Howard County's larger effort to thwart prostitution, human trafficking, and related offenses by making the county a less appealing place for such criminal behavior.

The US embassy has taken the unusual step of issuing a warning to American citizens in the UK to "keep a low profile" during the visit of President Donald Trump.

There are fears that demonstrations over Trump's three-day visit to the UK, where he will meet with British Prime Minister Theresa May and Queen Elizabeth, could turn violent.

The largest demonstration is expected in central London on Friday where a giant "Trump baby" balloon will fly close to Parliament after being given the go-ahead by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan.

A statement on the US embassy website warns US citizens to "be aware of your surroundings [and] exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings that may become violent."

As well as in London, protests are expected to take place in Bristol, Newcastle, Leeds, Cambridge and Cardiff after Trump arrives on Thursday.

A small demonstration is expected to take place near Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire on Thursday, the venue for Trump's black-tie dinner with May on Thursday evening.

There are also plans for protestors to gather close to the US ambassador's residence in Regent's Park, where Trump and his wife, Melania, will stay overnight on Thursday.

On Friday, demonstrators are expected to gather near Chequers, the Prime Minister's country residence, where May and Trump will hold a working lunch.

The biggest protest will take place in central London on Friday when thousands are expected to take to the streets to join the "Stop Trump" march.

Australian police have shut down a European crime syndicate that used students and tourists to distribute millions of dollars worth of illegal drugs hidden in potato chip packets, wine bottles and packs of chili paste.

A 26-year-old French national was charged Wednesday as part of a six month investigation by Australian Federal Police (AFP) and border officials into the smuggling ring which dealt in cocaine and MDMA, also known as ecstasy.

Police say the drugs, estimated to be worth around $2.4 million (3.3 million AUD), were smuggled in tourist luggage or sent via the post.

"The creative and ever-changing methods used by criminals to import drugs speak to the worrying demand for them in Australia," said Australian Border Force commander Graeme Grosse.

The suspect was arrested in Sydney, which has the highest cocaine consumption in the country according to a report released by the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission.

The 26-year-old French national, who has not been identified, has been charge with aiding and abetting drug distribution. The maximum penalty for these offenses is life imprisonment, AFP said in a statement.

Two other Frenchmen and one Belgian arrested in March are allegedly linked to the same ring, and were charged with multiple counts of importing and distributing drugs in Melbourne.

They allegedly concealed drugs worth around $207,500 in wine bottles and smuggled them into the country from France.

Eight other foreigners on student, working and tourist visas were also connected to the drug ring and were arrested by a New South Wales Police task force in April.

In that case, police seized one kilogram (2.2 lb) of various drugs and more than $174,200 in cash, according to a statement.

Local media reported that the drug runners advertised their business on a Facebook page called "Vegetables Australia," using different groceries as code words for the drugs they would deliver.

A woman found chained in a storage container on serial killer Todd Kohlhepp's property is expected to come face-to-face with Kohlhepp for first time Wednesday during a court hearing, court documents say.

2018-07-11 17:54:42 UTC

Kala Brown was rescued from the storage container in Nov. 3 2016 after she and her boyfriend were reported missing on Aug. 31. The bodies of Brown's boyfriend, Charlie Carver, Meagan McCraw Coxie and Johnny Coxie were found on Kohlhepp's property.

2018-07-11 17:55:00 UTC

Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright said Kohlhepp also confessed to a quadruple homicide at a motorcycle store in Spartanburg County in 2003.

Kohlhepp is serving life in prison after pleading guilty to killing seven people.

The court hearing, set for 2 p.m., is about civil lawsuits filed against Kohlhepp.

In 2016, Brown filed a lawsuit seeking payment of current and future medical expenses and punitive damages to be determined by a jury.

The lawsuit says that during Brown's imprisonment, Kohlhepp threatened, grabbed and hit Brown, causing her to suffer “severe emotional distress and other injuries.”

Three teenage girls have been arrested in Arkansas after a Snapchat video allegedly showed them terrorizing a baby.

According to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, police became aware of the incident when they were called to Conway Regional Medical Center for a report of child abuse.

The mother of a 1-year-old girl had brought her child in after seeing a disturbing video on social media. The video "appeared to depict three female teens laughing hysterically while taunting the baby girl with a Taser, which caused the child to scream and sob in uncontrollable fear," according to a police report.

"In the video, you can see and hear the electric prongs on the Taser lighting up," Officer Brittani A. Little wrote in the report.

One of the teens then "walks to the end of the bed and stretches her arm out and zaps the Taser two more times in the child's direction," police said.

Little notes that the child appears "out of breath from crying so hard."

At one point, the teens continue to laugh and joke as one of them hits the child in the back of the head.

Doctors evaluated the child and determined she was unhurt.

The teens, who were not identified because they are minors, were booked into the Faulkner County juvenile detention center. Each faces a charge of first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor.

FoxNews.com) - A local Kansas lawmaker is facing felony charges after she allegedly bit a corrections officer’s thumb so hard, she broke a bone.

Huron City Councilwoman Carol Fowler, 48, was taken into custody June 29 after failing to appear for a warrant, KSHB reported. Police allegedly had to use stun guns because she was fighting back, kicking and scratching, the Kansas City Star added.

On July 2, while in custody, Fowler refused to follow booking process instructions and when Atchison County Jail staff tried to remove her jewelry and personal items, she bit down on one of the officer’s thumb, breaking the bone, Sheriff Jack Laurie told the Atchison Globe.

SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (AP) — A firefighter was killed and at least a dozen other people were injured when a natural gas explosion leveled at least two buildings in a Wisconsin community, authorities said Wednesday.

A gas leak in downtown Sun Prairie led to an explosion Tuesday evening that destroyed several buildings and ignited a fire that sent billowing smoke that could be seen for miles around.

2018-07-11 18:04:01 UTC

Another firefighter suffered critical injuries in the blast but his condition has been stabilized, according to Sun Prairie Police Lt. Kevin Konopacki.

Four other firefighters, a police officer and seven civilians were also hurt, Konopacki said.

The firefighter who died has been with the department at least 10 years, Sun Prairie Fire Chief Christopher Garrison said.

“The Sun Prairie Fire Department is strong. We will keep on building from this. We are hurt, but we will come back,” Garrison said.

WE Energies spokeswoman Amy Jahns said workers for a private contractor punctured a 4-inch (10-centimeter) gas main, causing a leak that resulted in the explosion that rained burning debris on downtown Sun Prairie and set vehicles parked nearby on fire.

Authorities evacuated buildings within a half-mile (0.8 kilometer) radius from the center of the explosion. The Barr House and Glass Nickel Pizza exploded after the gas ignited, police said.

The Red Cross assisted evacuees at a shelter set up at Sun Prairie High School.

Steve Owen, 60, who owns Sun City Cyclery and Skates in downtown Sun Prairie, said he saw firefighters and police officers on the street and then the explosion happened. He said the building across from his shop “literally lifted up.”

2018-07-11 18:04:15 UTC

He said the force of the blast knocked him back in his chair and that he ran outside and saw a ball of fire.

“People were scrambling,” said Owen, who lives above his shop.

Jill Thompson, 56, who lives about two blocks away, said she saw smoke immediately after the blast occurred.

“It shook the whole building,” Thompson said. “I thought someone had hit the building with their vehicle.”
