@therealdandan when you said “sexual preference has a lot to do with visual stimulation” I think you’re misunderstanding and your professor is definitely mis quoting that idea. What men look for in women visually is deep rooted in evolution. I can’t get into depth about it now because I’m at work. But I’ll say one think men can often like women with big breasts because it evolutionarily it indicates there motherhood and that they are healthy enough to bear a child. Thats an example of what you’re talking about with visual stimuli. Pedophilia does not fall under that category because there would be no evolutionary benefit to liking a child since children can’t reproduce

Again I would like to emphasize that we are speculating about what could cause and what could be a contributing factor to the misattribution of sexual desires from an evolutionary perspective. Are proclivities are not necessarily in line with their evolutionary aim and goal. This is why you have dysfunctions and disorders. And genetic variability within evolutionary theory explains why disorders and dysfunctions exist. What my professor was talking about. Is the possibility the speculation that maybe this has something to do with sexual dysfunctions/misattribution.

For example, there was a law pass in Australia that is specific beer bottle must stop production. Because there was a certain type of bee that would think that the beer bottle was a mate.

When I say priors, I'm speaking about the overwhelming evidence to show that sexual preference and orientation is in part genetic and biological. So I am simply assuming with a certain degree of confidence that if I'm looking for the origin of pedophilia I should be looking at biology and genetics of a human being.

Talking about my previous quote about saying that I'm sexual preference / attraction has a lot to do with visual stimulus, this still holds true. All I am saying is that maybe within that programming within that biological network there is some sort of error that leads to pedophilia. I don't know it to be true, but I speculate that this might have something to do with it.

Well you can’t just use that example bees sexual evolution is absolutely totally different then humans

I mean I get in the end what you’re saying the word you’re looking for is a mutation and that is possible and could be true maybe. But the reason I think it’s very unlikely is because pedophiles that commit there urges on children are committing rape. A lot of people that give abuse do it because they were abused in the past. It is well documented that a lot of pedophiles were at a young age sexually abused there selves. Now I don’t know much about psychology but this argument is clearly in the field of psychology not biology. I think it could be looked into biologically but when a main persons claim is that people are born that way and there’s nothing to do to stop it then I think for one the claim is to weak for it to be the main claim of the argument, and secondly there’s no reason to make that claim.
