Essentially

2020-09-27 17:58:55 UTC

Its really fucked how it works

2020-09-27 17:59:13 UTC

It eats the lining around your brain

2020-09-27 18:00:57 UTC

Brain swelling is the most painful thing I experienced. The only thing that compared in pain was when I tore so much tissue in my ankle that when it was propped up my foot slowly fell out of align with my leg.

2020-09-27 18:02:56 UTC

its a short video but explains everything

2020-09-27 18:03:35 UTC

i studied it for my Bio 101 class and this is what I wanna for a career is study parasites and shit like this

2020-09-27 18:14:32 UTC

There's two parts that are both very lethal on their own. The cells being actively killed by the virus, then the immune response to kill the virus and remove dead cells.

2020-09-27 18:14:47 UTC

Hence causing the swelling

2020-09-27 18:20:02 UTC

The swelling can be predicted quite well from symptoms because the pressure in the skull pushes the brain stem down the spinal cord and as parts are damaged different systems start to fail.

2020-09-27 18:24:57 UTC

Is it mainly a danger if it somehow enters the sinuses (e.g. nasally aspirated lake water)?

2020-09-27 18:25:22 UTC

Its only dangerous if it enters through your nasal passage

2020-09-27 18:25:28 UTC

Its harmless if swallowed

2020-09-27 18:26:11 UTC

so don't swim in stagnant, hot, nasty-ass lake water and it's a non issue

2020-09-27 18:26:19 UTC

Basically lol

2020-09-27 18:26:24 UTC

thats why i dont swim in lakes

2020-09-27 18:27:22 UTC

Especially down south

2020-09-27 18:45:17 UTC

Been swimming in lakes and rivers muh whole life and I've never had any crazy prions fucking me up

2020-09-27 18:45:43 UTC

I'm probably legally retarded but that's besides the point <:atlast:758774926869004348>

2020-09-27 18:46:06 UTC

I mean its very rare to get

2020-09-27 18:46:20 UTC

Not many people get it

2020-09-27 18:46:31 UTC

Wearing nose plugs when you swim in lakes is preferred

2020-09-27 18:52:14 UTC

Wouldn’t be surprised if it was a COVID-19 type dynamic, with it being a problem primarily for people with compromised immune systems.

2020-09-27 19:04:34 UTC

Yea I went hiking last summer and did a lot of research on it bc I did not want to die like that.

2020-09-27 19:05:07 UTC

I wasnt going anywhere that would be high risk but I wanted to be as informed as possible just in case.

2020-09-27 21:00:50 UTC

Brain eating amoeba are no joke 😮

2020-09-27 21:01:00 UTC

Nope

2020-09-28 04:43:54 UTC

Why? It was paycheck protection money, do busywork to keep your 'vital to national security' employees employed. Who cares if they made pot holders. The point was to keep people on staff.

2020-09-28 11:08:26 UTC

@joe mama congrats

2020-09-28 13:24:02 UTC

<:JeanMaWTF:612453377258946570>

2020-09-28 14:10:47 UTC

Here we go again

2020-09-28 14:11:18 UTC

sigh

2020-09-28 14:13:55 UTC

These spikes with no deaths don't really concern me. BUT, the weather is turning, will we see an increase in deaths as the weather turns colder?

2020-09-28 14:20:31 UTC

PCR tests have NO predictive value

2020-09-28 15:18:51 UTC

of death.
