I do not understand why must(?)we have two political parties in between we the people and the candidates. The primaries are ran by the parties. And they determine the rules. I do not see this in the constitution or Federalist papers.

We should have direct democracy
healthy debate, healthy differences......keeps people accountable in my humble opinion.
That's just it though.. to me having party affiliations does more to limit and box people in. If people just ran on their own merits and records instead of saying oh I belong to this party etc. we might scrutinize their merit and records a lot more closely.
