here is an email i got from boby rush rep of illinois 1st dst....proves writing to officials/politicians about issues does no good.....they do what THEY WANT.... NOT WHAT THEY WERE ELECTED TO DO TO REPRESENT 'WE-THE-PEOPLE'......Dear Ms.....
I am pleased that we were able to work in a bipartisan way to fund the remainder of the federal government for the rest of the fiscal year. This deal reflected the true spirit of compromise and was the best way to responsibly fund our government and secure our border.
I am confident that this funding deal will have a positive effect on the residents of Illinois’ 1st Congressional District. This agreement will give a 1.9 percent pay raise to federal civilian workers, provide $3 billion for state and local law enforcement to keep communities safe, address the opioid crisis, and rebuild America’s infrastructure.
However, I remained concerned that following this agreement, the President declared a national emergency to fund a border wall. It is my opinion that this declaration violates the law and damages our constitutional system of separation of powers and checks and balances.
That is why I stood with House Democrats to defend our constitutional authorities and voted to terminate the emergency declaration .
Also, during this month, the House voted on two key overdue, bipartisan, commonsense bills strengthening the background check system: H.R. 8 and H.R. 1112 . It is my opinion, that these two bipartisan bills are a significant first step in ending the epidemic of gun violence in our country, which is why I voted for these reasonable solutions.
Now, please take a moment to check out some important highlights and information about what has been happening in our District and what to look forward to in this Congressional Session, as we fight to make sure Washington works for the people.
Interesting ^
