His first big break came in 2014 when he was featured alongside the B-52's lead singer, Fred Schneider, in RuPaul's Drag Race season 5 winner Jinkx Monsoon's music video for the song, "The Bacon Shake". This was Desmond's first time playing a character in "drag" and he loved it.

2018-06-24 10:25:10 UTC

It ignited a passion within him for entertaining others, as well as an understanding of how important it is for people of all ages to express themselves the way they want to.

In 2015, Desmond was the star of NYC Pride March when he danced his way into everyone's hearts in his choice of a rainbow tutu and sparkly gold beret. Overnight, Desmond's story was featured on NewNowNext, Yahoo, Perez Hilton, and Out Magazine. Quickly, he became an internet sensation and was well-known by millions worldwide.

Desmond's mother's acquaintance created a Facebook fan page, called 'Desmond is Amazing' to share his continuing journey with others. The name stuck, and Desmond decided to use it as his official stage name.

The adult son of Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker has been accused of assaulting a woman on a flight from Washington to Boston.

“On June 20, the crew of flight 1354 were notified of an incident between customers shortly before landing in Boston,” JetBlue said in a statement. “The aircraft landed at approximately 11 p.m. local time where it was met by local authorities.”

Andrew Baker, known as A.J. was not arrested or handed a summons.

The alleged victim accused him of inappropriately touching her, saying Baker grabbed her breast and refused to let go, CBS Boston said.

State police said the investigation is being conducted by the US Attorney’s office, which refused to confirm or deny it’s leading the probe.

Baker’s lawyer said his client is “fully cooperating.’’

VATICAN CITY — The Vatican tribunal on Saturday convicted a former Holy See diplomat and sentenced him to five years in prison for possessing and distributing child pornography in the first such trial of its kind inside the Vatican.

Monsignor Carlo Capella admitted to viewing the images during what he called a period of “fragility” and interior crisis sparked by a job transfer to the Vatican embassy in Washington. He apologized to his family and the Holy See, and appealed for leniency by saying the episode was just a “bump in the road” of a priestly vocation he loved and wanted to continue.

Tribunal President Giuseppe Dalla Torre read out the verdict after a two-day trial and sentenced Capella to five years and a fine of 5,000 euros ($5,830.) Capella will serve the sentence in the Vatican barracks, where he has been held since his arrest earlier this year.

2018-06-24 10:33:15 UTC

Prosecutor Gian Piero Milano had asked for a stiffer sentence due to what he called the “great” amount of material accessed, which included 40 to 55 photos, films and Japanese animation found on his cellphone, an iCloud and Tumblr account, which Capella viewed even after he had been recalled by the Vatican in August 2017.

Prosecutors and Vatican investigators said the material featured children aged 14-17 engaging in sexual acts.

Capella’s attorney disputed that Capella had distributed the material. He denied the amount of porn was excessive, and said his client had cooperated with investigators, repented and was seeking psychological help.

The Vatican recalled Capella, the No. 4 official in its Washington embassy, after the US State Department notified it in August of a “possible violation of laws relating to child pornography images” by one of its diplomats in Washington.

Soon after, Canadian police issued an arrest warrant for Capella, accusing him of having accessed, possessed and distributed child porn over Christmas 2016 from a church in Windsor, Ontario, using a social networking site.

2018-06-24 10:33:59 UTC

The trial was the first known enforcement of a 2013 law for the Vatican City State that specifically criminalized possession and distribution of child pornography, punishing it with up to five years in prison and a 50,000 euro fine.

Now that the criminal prosecution is over, Capella will be subject to a canonical trial, which could result in him being defrocked.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Canadian authorities would pursue their case against him; the Vatican doesn’t extradite its citizens.

Capella said he realized that his actions were vulgar and “improper.” During a final statement Saturday begging for the minimum sentence, Capella apologized for the pain his “fragility” and “weakness” had caused his family, his diocese and the Holy See.

2018-06-24 10:34:54 UTC

I hope that this situation can be considered a bump in the road” and that the case could also could be useful for the church, he said.

Capella was a high-ranking priest in the Vatican’s diplomatic corps. He served on the Italy desk in the Vatican’s secretariat of state and was part of the official delegation that negotiated a tax treaty with Italy before being posted to the US embassy in 2016.

A canon lawyer, Capella is listed online as having written a 2003 paper for the Pontifical Lateran University on priestly celibacy and the church’s criminal code.

The case was similar to the 2013 recall of the Vatican’s then-ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Monsignor Jozef Wesolowski, who was accused of sexually abusing young boys on the Caribbean island.

A restaurant in New Jersey with the same name as the one that asked White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders to leave on Friday said it has been receiving threats from “angry, ill-informed callers” who are confusing the two eateries.
The owner of the Red Hen in Lexington, Virginia told the Washington Post she asked Sanders to leave her establishment because the press secretary had defended the actions of an “inhumane and unethical” administration.
On Saturday, a different Red Hen restaurant in Swedesboro, New Jersey, took to social media to announce that it was “in no way affiliated with the Red Hen in Virginia.”

2018-06-24 10:36:38 UTC

We are an independent, family owned business who happens to share the same name,” the restaurant said on its Facebook page.
“Kindly check your facts before you erroneously defame an innocent business on Facebook in an attempt to destroy their business where they welcome all, irrespective of their race, religion, views or opinions,” it added.
After Sanders tweeted about the incident on Saturday morning, Facebook users began flooding the New Jersey Red Hen’s page with comments, including posts calling for a boycott of the restaurant.

2018-06-24 10:36:57 UTC

In its own comment, the New Jersey Red Hen said people were “arrogantly and erroneously defam[ing]” the eatery.
“My telephone has not stopped ringing, angry ill-informed callers threatening my staff, our business, cursing and swearing at us,” the eatery wrote. “I would prefer to have my lines open for guests who wish to make a reservation at our establishment that welcomes ALL.”

Six decapitated chickens were left on a Long Island beach as part of what police described as a “ritualistic sacrifice.”

2018-06-24 10:41:38 UTC

The headless fowls were found in a wicker basket on a beach in Islip on Thursday, the Suffolk County SPCA said.

The basket was covered with blue fabric and surrounded by grains, fruits and candles, according to the SPCA.
“Suffolk County SPCA consulted with a renowned expert who confirmed that this is a ritualistic sacrifice or offering to Yemaya, the Goddess of the Ocean, and involves dismemberment of chickens,” the organization said.

SARANAC LAKE, N.Y. (WTEN) - Former President Barack Obama visited the Adirondacks this week. According to a source at the Adirondack Regional Airport, President Obama flew into the airport earlier this week and left on Friday, June 22.

Richie Hewitt, an airport employee, says he spent a few minutes with the former president; the two talked about their daughters who both attend Harvard University.

It's not clear why he was in the region.

President Obama is currently working on writing a book that will focus on his time as president.

Many presidents have spent time in the Adirondacks including both his predecessors, Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, as well as Calvin Coolidge, who spent the summer of 1926 on Osgood Lake.

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) -- - A local transgender rights group is sending a message to lawmakers about the immigration crisis. The ‘We Exist’ Coalition says they’re rallying to give a voice to the hundreds of immigrant families and children.

2018-06-24 10:44:55 UTC

It was a strong message coming from the steps of Niagara Falls City Hall Saturday.

“We need to have compassion, dignity and as much bravery,” said Angela Burnham, a leader with the We Exist Coalition of Buffalo.

She says people need to have compassion for the thousands of children separated from their parents at the border. She says she wants to help speak up for people she says can't speak for themselves.

“As a veteran this isn't what I fought for. This isn't what I wanted for my country,” said Burnham.

Saturday's rally was initially to focus on the anniversary of Title IX, but organizers decided to switch gears.

“We are and always will be primarily a transgender rights group organization but we have to stick up for others too, we have to stick up for what's right what's decent,” said Burnham.

Their message -- "We Care" -- is a response to First Lady Melania Trump who wore a jacket that read "I really don't care. Do you?” while traveling to visit a facility housing immigrant children.

Similar rallies were held in Seneca falls and New York City Saturday afternoon.

The We Exist Coalition is calling on lawmakers to pass an immigration bill.

2018-06-24 10:45:13 UTC

We have to put our foots down and say this not okay,” said Burnham.

President Trump signed an executive order earlier this week. The Trump Administration says it keeps families who illegally cross the border together.

But Burnham says the damage is already done.

“These children are going to have to carry around what's happening in these places for the rest of their life, even after it ends,” said Burnham.

Reps for First Lady Melania Trump have said there was no meaning behind her jacket.

The White House says about 500 kids have been reunited with their parents. But there are still questions on how the more than 2,000 children will be reunited with their families.
