People under suicide watch are put into an environment where it would be difficult for them to hurt themselves. In many cases, any dangerous items will be removed from the area, such as sharp objects and some furniture, or they may be placed in a special padded cell, which has nothing outcropping from the walls (e.g., a clothes hook or door closing bracket) to provide a place for a ligature to be attached, and with only a drain-grill on the floor. They may be stripped of anything with which they might hurt themselves or use as a noose, including shoelaces, belts, neckties,[1] bras,[2] shoes, socks, suspenders and bed sheets.[2] In extreme cases the inmate may be undressed entirely.

Green and navy blue are both popular colors because they’re considered “soothing.” Manufacturers try to avoid colors like yellow or gold because the brightness could agitate the inmates and perhaps keep them up at night.

the gov't must have the black book Epstein’s former houseman who stole a black book, referred to as the ‘Holy Grail’ of phone contacts. The book, which was later included in court documents, includes the names of Epstein’s high-profile and wealthy friends and associates, including personal numbers for Donald Trump, former President Bill Clinton and others. It also contained the names and phone numbers for dozens of girls and young women from around the world whom he called for massages. Rodriguez was arrested and sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for trying to sell the book. He died in 2015.

6:51 AM PT -- Federal law enforcement sources tell TMZ Epstein hanged himself in the facility.

2019-08-10 18:12:13 UTC

7:42 AM PT -- What's interesting ... the facility had Epstein in the Special Housing Unit Suicide Watch since the first incident. Guards were supposed to "maintain the inmate under direct, continuous observation," 24-hours a day. The lights in the unit are not even turned off, which makes this whole situation odd.

2019-08-10 18:12:22 UTC

8:29 AM PT -- Law enforcement sources tell us, the protocol in the Suicide Watch Unit where Epstein was held is for monitors to record the movements of the inmates. So, there should be video showing exactly what happened ... unless someone erased over it.
And this is especially puzzling -- our law enforcement sources say Epstein's cell was so bright he was complaining he was unable to sleep. Fact is, whatever happened should have happened in plain sight of the guards.
The U.S. Dept. of Justice says the FBI is now investigating.

2019-08-10 18:12:36 UTC

9:19 AM PT -- There are now reports Epstein may not have been under suicide watch. Sources familiar with the case say that would be a violation of protocol, since anyone suspected of being suicidal is put on suicide watch, and authorities believed the first incident was a suspected suicide attempt. So, if he was on suicide watch, how did this happen, and if he wasn't on suicide watch, why wasn't he?

9:44 AM PT -- Attorney General William Barr just weighed in on Epstein's suicide, saying, "Mr. Epstein's death raises serious questions that must be answered. In addition to the FBI's investigation, I have consulted with the Inspector General who is opening an investigation into the circumstances of Mr. Epstein's death."

10:36 AM PT -- A federal law enforcement source tells TMZ ... Epstein was off suicide watch at the time he hanged himself. The source would not comment on why prison officials would remove Epstein from suicide watch given that they believed he may have attempted suicide days earlier.

Virginia Roberts Giuffre

2019-08-10 18:14:22 UTC

Virginia Roberts Giuffre is perhaps the most high-profile of Epstein's alleged victims.

2019-08-10 18:14:30 UTC

She claims she is a former sex slave of Epstein and says the billionaire asked her to be a surrogate when she was just 18, around the same time he said she was too old for his sexual perversions.

2019-08-10 18:14:40 UTC

Her allegations were made public when her since-settled lawsuit against Epstein's former girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell was included among the more than 2,000 pages of documents made public by the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
