Ron the salt would be my effort to sterilize and preserve
ive made home made jerky , that was the best ever
I used to smoke my own salmon, halibut and game meats then tin can them all
awesome ron, if i could find someone local who was a pal to give me hands on training session i would
i get my local market who raises superior livestock that i order like two to three pounds of thinly sliced beef for when i am making home made jerky
Trust your own self and instincts
i wish i could lol ron oh man
i trust the jerky because of all the salt that goes into it and then it dries out in the oven for several hours
Wanna hear this...the Alaskan natives salted and or dried all their fish and game meats and left them out hanging in the outdoors...been doing it for centuries
i love watching that youtube channel Townsends , he does amazing work on historical cooking in the 18th century with 18th century techniques and 18th century recipes
@Zyrenn There's problee something on youtube about it ! Lotsa " how to's "
wow cool Ron
so true Klat
i learned lots from Chef jon lol
Only reason I never left meats or fish hanging was the bears of Kodiak
that would be a downer Ron, perhaps put it in a shed ?
or something?
Only a few thousand dollars @Groot
thermal reaction of glass and heat when canning gives me the shakes lol

I was watching the live bear cam in ALaska on YT earlier.. sitting in the river.. waiting for the fish to jump up the waterfall. I am sitting watching this in awe..thinking.. what in the heck are these fish thinking.. "lets make the hardest trip we could possibly make.. go against the current.. then try to jump up a water fall.. oops..we missed.. let me try 1000 more times..oh no..there's a bear..waiting for me" REALLY!!
hahahahhahaha yes klat
omg hahahahahha wow notso
The Katmai bears???
Yes @Ron Ward
They are beautiful.. just sitting in the river.. playing.. waiting for fish lol
Straight across from where I lived
Really?? wow...
Yes
that's incredible
klat one time i had those glass lazanga pans and i thought welp maybe i can sterilize the glass before i use it, so i put it in the oven for 30 mins on high heat , pulled it out with my oven mits and ran cold water over it to give a quick cool off, and it exploded everywhere
I never went out or ventured without a big gun
first time i ever felt scared and stupid at the same time lol
You must of seen them when you out near the water
