yes and the cow is in deep distress mooing and crying lol i felt so bad
i was like hang on sweety it will be over in a flash , omg i would get so emotional lol i was crying with the cow
oh and since and i todl you since the cattle were 1/12 hereford , some of the calves still had horns in their DNA , my dad was trying to breed that out of them so they would not injure each other and the pain they suffered when dehorning the calves, but when we had to dehorn a few omg it was hell
we had to dehorn them when they were under a few weeks old or they would have to be rounded up and put in a holder and they are bigger and stronger and more dangerous,
I didn't have the emotional influence ...focus...these cattle are strong beasts and although I loved them they were way more brutal then me. One time I was up past my elbow and the heifer keeled over...taking me with. cousins only laughed.
then we had to use a medicine that would clot the blood on the surface so they would not get infections nor bleed to death, ugh it was a painful job on both ends for both us and the calves, and we had to do it before they were weaned because if the scab is still weak it can rupture from the calves crying and in distress being weaned and cause them to bleed to death
I never dehornd.....my uncle used weights to turn them down.
well that is another thing , my dad would always research for the temperment of the bull and cow stock
he wanted mainly tame tempered cattle to avoid all that wild mess
the moment one of the offspring would be on the wild side and stir trouble in the heard , he would immediately call the butcher shop to pick that one up lol
it is too risky to have ill tempered cattle in the heard, they will kill you the moment your back is turned
fortunately i never had any ill tempered encouters with the cattle, there was one troubled calf i was attempting to break in for 4-H , it attacked my dad , we sent it off to the market
I was never involved in the culling selection for slaughter or breeding. I never got to do the insemination or anything like that. Transport trucks in and out was never a duty I was asked to be involved in so rarely new other than tags which cattle were someone else or my uncles.
i would sit on the fence as young as age 5 and cows would walk up to me and lick the bottoms of my feet lol
it was hilarious to see cows chase our family dog around , she loved it, but it was hilarious
but omg when she would delve into cow pies , gag lol
ah you had to tag their ears, yes that is a job
we did that for a few years but over time we really didn't have to , we were not near other cattle farms
dogs were forbidden around the breeder bulls pastures....it would infuriate uncle and cousins....bulls were mean enough w/o being antagonized..even for grins.
when we did not have a breeder bull in the heard, my dad would round up the cows and put them in the shoot and glue on patches on the tip of their hind quarters , when dominate cows would mount other cows in season, the patch would change to the color red and that is when my dad would call the vet over
but when they were in the fields..all bets were off.
hahahaha
never pick on the barnyard bull lol
when i was a stupid child lol i was told that bulls and cows know when you are making fun of them and picking on them, so i would stand on the safe side of the fence thinking by making silly faces at them and saying nanny nanny boo boo, they would charge at me, they just stared at me like what is she doing lol?
in school my cousins would tell me or one of my siblings ...so and so is gone ...got stepped on...🤔
omg lol
i mean that is not funny but wow lol
I pretty much respected by uncles rules ...i have other siblings that were not so respectfull or didn;t follow safety instructions....they never understood why they didn't get to work on the farm......One chance was all you got.
many times i wanted to see if i could bond with the cows when i was like age 8 or so, i would stand on the safe side of the fence and make them eat field corn on the cob out of my hands, i was surprized they did lol when i went to pet them they would pull away but still they would lap up the food out of my hands at least
@Groot i am so sorry about that, yeah there is the dark side of raising live stock that should always be fully respected
even the most kitten tamed cow or bull , accidents can still happen
it was all about safety of yourself and the animal (your livelihood), I completely understood that and had a healthy desire to learn something.
are your siblings ok now?
I know of three times I visited my uncle in the hospital, broken ribs, gored and broken foot/stepped on. He had many other times that is just what I remember.
Yo Yo Yo Hoams and Yo-Yo's
yeah i gotten my bumps bruises and trips to the ER when riding horses
i was of the luckier ones with cattle tho, never had any issues
Hey Wreck it how goes the battle?
