Libertarianism originally is attributed to what we call classical liberalism today but gave birth to anarchism, originally far-left. People think of libertarianism as right-wing in America because the American libertarian movement is almost exclusively right-wing.

The only left equivalent is the Green Party.

Historically libertarianism has been dominated by the left.
