In what scenario does America being at war with its economic interests overseas or having them damaged inadvertently make the economy "skyrocket"?
GDP only increases artificially during war because war-related industries are given financial incentive to expand dramatically. This wealth does not reach "the people", the economy as a whole doesn't benefit.
The USSR for example had their GDP expand rapidly during WWII but their economy was basically shredded.
And what technological advancement would happen in a world war that wouldn't happen in the petty police actions we have today? If anything it would be stifled because there would be less money to give to ambitious projects that are really just money sinkholes like the F-35.
At least I assume that's your reasoning, that war would drive innovation.
A world war does not benefit America at all given how interconnected the American economy is with the world. Globalization and interdependence through free trade is the single biggest factor by a long shot why there are no longer massive wars between countries anymore, because the benefit of gaining raw resources is far outstripped by diplomatic blowback and a restriction to traded resources.
America is definitely the biggest example of this.
tl;dr, saying America would benefit from a world war is completely ignorant.
And I can only assume that when Oscar ignorantly said the capital of Russia was Kiev, he was talking about the Kievan Rus' which was:
A) Scandinavian.
B) and the original capital was Novgorod, Kiev was the strategic capital.
