we can look at is how self-identification corresponds to best-fit genetic cluster. Cluster analyses are when researchers get a bunch of genetic data, and then tell the computer to sort it into clusters. For example, it may take 300 pieces of DNA, and then tell the computer to sort individuals based on those 300 pieces of DNA into five clusters. and based upon this data we can find a high correlation between race and self identified race.
