Just talking with some guy who finds it hypocritical that Republicans want the 10 commandments to be displayed in buildings, yet the Republicans don't follow the 10 commandments.

I would say that you're not ament to follow them. If you're a Christian, you know about Jesus's teachings in the Sermon on the Mount.

Thou shalt not murder, yet Jesus said that to hate someone is equal to murder. Thou shalt not commit adultery, yet Jesus said that to look lustfully at a woman is equal to adultery.

I'd argue that the 10 commandments are there to be an example of what we can never reach. :/

Because for a human, it is physically impossible to follow them.

Though if you're Jewish, then Jesus's teachings are not valid to you. (And then we have the Messianic Jew question.)

Hate someone = You murder someone

Look at a woman lustfully = You commit adultery.

Either you keep ALL the commandments, or none. Otherwise it's cherry picking the Bible, which can be argued as a sin because it says that taking away or adding to the Bible is a sin.
