@Toothcake it was part of a cultural shift in animation for kids where a serialised story with consiquences was used. It was also integral to the rise of Anime in the west and had a huge impact on the kids watching.

Viewing it now it's hard to appreciate all the changes it made to children's animation but you won't find any animation not seriously impacted by it.
