This was years ago now, i remember it being some disease or infection of the blood
probably acute or chronic leukaemia
Shitty.
How long do you have to clean a fresh wound?
Before something festers
difficult to say
Say a nice gash from a knife out in the woods
if you had a clean cut with a knife
you may be fine
if you had a ragged cut with say
a sharp stone
it could be cleaning wont do much good because so many bits are embedded
it would take debridement of the wound and multiple cleans and dressings potentially
however not all such wounds would cause overwhelming infection and sepsis
I should start packing a first aid kit when i go hiking then
you can survive infected wounds
you do often enough
Yeah i dont think ive suffered any infections yet
sepsis is quick
but infection is not
So unless i get impaled on a branch i should be okay to hike down and live
you'll be fine
but yes, some antiseptic is good to carry around
old school technique is to cauterize the wound
usually with your sword
Yeah
heat the sword or knife in an open fire and put it to the wound
however
you have to be a bit careful
Still dirty
if you burn yourself too badly
that itself can get badly infected
Yeah i wanna go solo hiking more, i should bring a little handbook on how to treat wounds and the like
SAS survival handbook still the best I think
I used to read it as a kid
mostly the poison plants
and traps
Ill add it to my kit
older editions
newer ones have crap like how to deal with computer viruses and shit
