should I get a 1st or 2nd gen miata?

2017-07-31 08:29:09 UTC

1st

2017-07-31 18:03:55 UTC

@Zero Cool Always first

2017-07-31 18:04:00 UTC

Never 3rd

2017-07-31 18:04:20 UTC

2nd is okay but 1st gen is the best

2017-07-31 21:44:41 UTC

kk

2017-07-31 21:44:52 UTC

I'm looking at a few in my area

2017-07-31 21:45:07 UTC

the going rate for 1st gen miatas with >175k miles is about $3500

2017-07-31 21:45:12 UTC

should I aim for a lower milage?

2017-08-01 13:13:34 UTC

Even the newest 1st gens are 20 years old now, so actual lower mileage ones are going to be pretty rare, and probably sat for a while. With a car like this, I think the thing you most want to avoid is ones which have been abused, since 5k miles on the track are going to put a lot more wear on it than 5k on the highway.

^

2017-08-01 18:12:23 UTC

so basically try to look for one that's as stock as possible?

2017-08-01 18:12:31 UTC

most of the ones in my area have aftermarket wheels and are lowered

2017-08-01 18:12:40 UTC

which I see as a warning sign

2017-08-02 00:26:58 UTC

You need to look up a Miata forum, most model specific forums have buyers guides, which specify what to look for

2017-08-02 00:27:07 UTC

like subframe cracks on BMWs

2017-08-02 10:03:30 UTC

/o/ has a really good miata general

2017-08-02 16:25:47 UTC

2017-08-03 00:21:30 UTC

where's the van all I see are two wheels

2017-08-03 07:45:49 UTC

I prefer the second

2017-08-03 07:50:08 UTC

yeah i just see windows, tires, and lights, no chassis

2017-08-03 17:04:57 UTC

I'm kind of leaning towards the first, because the car is designed a bit curvy

2017-08-03 17:05:06 UTC

and that camouflage was made for Western Europe

2017-08-09 14:50:30 UTC

You ever seen a turbo'd Miata?

2017-08-09 14:51:21 UTC

yeah

2017-08-09 14:51:36 UTC

I only knew it was turbo'd because of the blow off valve noise

2017-08-14 08:21:54 UTC

Should I get a supra?

2017-08-14 10:40:53 UTC

they're pretty good cars alex

2017-08-14 10:40:56 UTC

go for it

2017-08-14 11:28:51 UTC

I'd say 4th gens are overpriced

2017-08-14 11:30:44 UTC

A Lexus SC300/Toyota Soarer would be a much cheaper project car, unless you really love the look of the supra

2017-08-14 19:07:37 UTC

I don't know too much about lexus

2017-08-14 19:27:05 UTC

A Lexus SC300 is a re-badged Toyota Soarer. It came with the non-turbo 3L I6 2JZ-GE supra engine, or alternatively a 4.0 L V8 1UZ-FE in SC400 form. I'm not sure about differences in the block, head, etc. And it probably has smaller brakes, softer suspension, but some of the supra stock units, or upgrades will swap over.
