I live in deciduous forest, and we get between 30 and 70 inches of rain annually. I usually build heavily thatched A-frames. When I have time I build a teepee style shelter, again with heavy thatch for waterproofing.

Dense branches of broad leafs like oak as the 'base' layer of the thatch with smaller leaved branches from pecan and walnut on top.

i was thinking about a dug out with wood framework but it might get washed out and muddy

need to wait for summer to get started.

I always go off the ground. In spring and fall its always wet, in summer we have red ants and other manner of biting things.

Make a small platform for your bed

In winter I do a coal bed.
