Heavy shit

2020-04-02 16:06:37 UTC

Boots is something where the threshold for money put in to quality out rises rapidly to a point then it's all the same

2020-04-02 16:06:50 UTC

That point is somewhere around the $200 mark it seems

2020-04-02 16:07:02 UTC

Can I just go to Dick's and get the 120$ tactical ones ?

2020-04-02 16:07:04 UTC

Almost all the boots below that that I've used have been garbage

2020-04-02 16:07:09 UTC

hm

2020-04-02 16:07:23 UTC

Hiking brand boots are almost always better than "tactical" brand shit

2020-04-02 16:07:34 UTC

Anything Lowa is good to go

2020-04-02 16:07:40 UTC

There is no way you did 2 days in steelies unless you fucking sat static the whole time

2020-04-02 16:07:44 UTC

Salo has some pretty good kid range shit

2020-04-02 16:07:47 UTC

@Smart Car Driveby you can get low zephyr mid gtxs for like 160-170

2020-04-02 16:07:53 UTC

Honestly pretty solid

2020-04-02 16:07:56 UTC

2020-04-02 16:08:17 UTC

Yeah, I hate goretex boots for good reason but those are patrician choice for normie boots

2020-04-02 16:08:39 UTC

o u don’t like goretex boots?

2020-04-02 16:08:46 UTC

They have their place

2020-04-02 16:08:48 UTC

what are your gripes?

2020-04-02 16:08:56 UTC

But I wouldn't want to use them if I can avoid it

2020-04-02 16:09:05 UTC

I’m always being told to go for goretex boots

2020-04-02 16:09:07 UTC

Yeah I mean, I'd rather have sweaty feet then soaked boots

2020-04-02 16:09:08 UTC

Your feet will get wet this is a garuntee

2020-04-02 16:09:12 UTC

Goretex does not save you

2020-04-02 16:09:23 UTC

well yeah

2020-04-02 16:09:29 UTC

After that goretex just impedes water evaporation and traps heat more

2020-04-02 16:09:30 UTC

but goretex also focuses on drying faster

2020-04-02 16:09:35 UTC

Especially ehen it's hot as fuck out

2020-04-02 16:09:36 UTC

No

2020-04-02 16:09:44 UTC

isn’t it made specifically to let moisture out??

2020-04-02 16:09:47 UTC

A dedicated jungle or desert boot always cools and dries faster

2020-04-02 16:09:58 UTC

No goretex is just a semi permeable membrane

2020-04-02 16:10:09 UTC

i see

2020-04-02 16:10:26 UTC

Goretex is just teflon stretched really fast and it has holes in it the holes are smaller than water droplets can get through but much bigger than water vapor

2020-04-02 16:10:36 UTC

It doesn't wick water or anything

2020-04-02 16:10:41 UTC

Like desert boots

2020-04-02 16:10:50 UTC

Because wicking stuff works both ways

2020-04-02 16:11:26 UTC

Socks make the difference when it comes to rain and shit in terms of blisters

2020-04-02 16:11:54 UTC

so they’re “don’t focus on not getting wet, focus on getting dry faster” thing is bullshit 😔

2020-04-02 16:12:06 UTC

their*

2020-04-02 16:12:08 UTC

If you spend any amount of time in the rain your feet will be wet regardless of boot material so the boots have to fit well, and support well. Ideally dry fast so when it stops raining and being shit your feet go back to being fine

2020-04-02 16:12:33 UTC

are waterproof socks viable?
