First we have the obvious speaking fees and book deal type corruption

But most substantively and importantly is the role that the stock market plays

Let's say you are a multi-billionaire

You make your money by placing bets that certain stock prices will go up or down

It is illegal to use inside knowledge of a company to influence the price of stock, but it is NOT illegal to use your own influence to influence the price of stock

Quick example: I cannot bet the price of Starbucks stock will go down if I work there and have heard secret starbucks briefings that starbucks is responsible for AIDS

but I can if I dont work for them and I uncover that evidence myself

You would make HUGE bets that one side of an industry would go up and the other side would go down, then use all your political influence to make that bet happen

So, take George Soros

He makes HUGE billion dollar bets that coal industry companies will go down in value and that green energy companies will go up

then he gets fucked because trump wins the presidency, meaning coal industry actually goes up in value and green energy goes down
