Man oh man

2020-03-01 01:39:56 UTC

Biden won SC in an absolute fucking blowout

2020-03-01 01:42:41 UTC

Some people just don’t have self control. They can’t just “smoke weed” they make it their identity. Like those women who act like wine is a personality trait.

2020-03-01 01:48:49 UTC

Seriously. Even moreso I would say. I've never seen so much merchandizing on any other drug. People litterally wear the shit because they think it's cool.

2020-03-01 01:51:07 UTC

Getting buzzed once and a while doesn't impair your normal functions.

2020-03-01 01:52:17 UTC

However, if people were to smoke as regularly as they drank, there would be a bigger impact on neurological functions.

2020-03-01 01:53:41 UTC

> dopamine synthesis capacity was reduced in cannabis users

2020-03-01 01:53:42 UTC

@Anthraxic weed culture is only weed culture because weed is for the most part illegal.

2020-03-01 01:54:22 UTC

So if dopamine capabilities are negatively impacted, it's possible that users become unmotivated and lazy, considering dopamine is the system which helps rewarding and motivation.

2020-03-01 01:55:44 UTC

"Studies of repeated THC dosing have yielded complex, regionally-specific effects including increased total striatal dopamine levels62 in rats but reduced hippocampal63 dopamine levels in mice. Reduced dopamine metabolism was found in the medial PFC in two rat studies"

2020-03-01 01:56:29 UTC

And that's in animals

2020-03-01 01:56:46 UTC

Later in the study, it talks specifically about humans

2020-03-01 01:56:53 UTC

"Several molecular imaging studies of dopaminergic function have been conducted in human cannabis users. Using PET, dopamine synthesis capacity was reduced in cannabis users69. Importantly, this reduction was driven by users meeting clinical criteria for abuse or dependence and was related to the severity of cannabis use (Fig. 3). Likewise, in two separate studies, cannabis users displayed reduced dopamine release to a stimulant challenge which was inversely related to severity of cannabis use70 and cognitive deficits including poor working memory71. Since no alteration in amphetamine-induced dopamine release was seen in recently abstinent cannabis users72, this effect is likely related to active use of the drug. While chronic use was not associated with altered stress-induced dopamine release73, there was evidence of a positive relationship between duration of cannabis use and stress-induced dopamine release in the limbic striatum"

2020-03-01 01:57:36 UTC

Lol why even have "weed culture" though? That sounds retarded

2020-03-01 01:57:44 UTC

@Anthraxic like I said.

2020-03-01 01:57:51 UTC

Weed culture ONLY EXISTS because weed is illegal.

2020-03-01 01:57:56 UTC

It's a means of activism.

2020-03-01 01:58:00 UTC

and guess what

2020-03-01 01:58:06 UTC

it's making states where it's legal lots of money

2020-03-01 01:58:23 UTC

Showing your snapchat friends how big of a dab you can take in your story isnt activism

2020-03-01 01:58:28 UTC

also @christiam the last sentence is all I needed to read

2020-03-01 01:58:29 UTC

"Overall there is converging evidence for reduced presynaptic dopaminergic function in cannabis users."

2020-03-01 01:58:54 UTC

Obviously if you're addicted to marijuana and use it chronically you're probably gonna have issues.

2020-03-01 01:59:25 UTC

But that's literally apparent with any other drug, and the effects other drugs have from chronic use far outweight anything we have observed from marijuana.

2020-03-01 01:59:38 UTC

oh you're addicted to meth? lose all your teeth, and degenerate into a shell of yourself.

2020-03-01 02:00:13 UTC

oh you're addicted to coke? you open yourself up to cardiovascular issues.

2020-03-01 02:00:42 UTC

If you smoke weed all day you become delinquent on child support and be the weirdo that always smells like bud

2020-03-01 02:01:05 UTC

damn I guess i'm on child support that smells like bud

2020-03-01 02:01:07 UTC

but guess what

2020-03-01 02:01:16 UTC

I provide for myself, and live a comfortable life due to my work

2020-03-01 02:01:29 UTC

so I couldn't really care what they think.

2020-03-01 02:01:46 UTC

Nobody is speaking in absolutes, dude

2020-03-01 02:03:10 UTC

@NotDanks4DaMemeories Stressed induced dopamine is a little vague, but, from what I've seen, that means dopamine released as a result of cortisol levels (so high-stress).

2020-03-01 02:04:42 UTC

So overall levels of dopamine release are lowered, with the exception of dopamine response to stress.

2020-03-01 02:05:29 UTC

In fact, some studies say that stress-induced dopamine has a positive effect on the risk of psychotic illness.

2020-03-01 02:05:51 UTC

So perhaps, increased dopamine response to stress isn't a good thing.

2020-03-01 02:09:29 UTC

> In summary, the available evidence indicates that THC exposure produces complex, diverse and potentially long-term effects on the dopamine system including increased nerve firing and dopamine release in response to acute THC and dopaminergic blunting associated with long-term use. Future research should focus on probing the relationships between cannabis-induced alterations in the dopamine system and behavioural effects in humans and animal models.

2020-03-01 02:09:58 UTC

Acute THC meaning the effect immediately after use. I.E being high.
