He had to write about the cold war

So I'm a junior in a class of college freshmen and we had to respond to a reading and in that the author said the country isn't a melting pot anymore but a patchwork quilt and I said

I think the author is wrong. We are still melting pot and something along the lines of I believe in a national identity.
