I hope America dosen't break down.
America would turn into Europa 2.0
It depends on what America breaks down into, which would determine whether it's good or bad
Nationalism is the only thing keeping America going, if its nationalism falls, you have hundreds of Tribes..
Remember, Whites in Rhodesia made less than 10% of population, and held control over country that had drought problems, poor soil, et cetera, not much industry
Yet they made prosperous state
They managed to mitigate sanctions on top of everything
But if America breaks into 50 smaller Americas = not good
If we do break down into the States (which is what it would be if anything) it's likely going to form new Confederations or attempts to reconquer it all back.
Who is going to conquer it ? In Civil war you had people volunteering to fight, you had population giving their best to help war effort
Who is going to do that today ?

California is one of those countries that is all talk no action
They can't make decent public transport in super rich country with 40 million people, and they are promising some kind of futuristich and tech cities because Apple happens to have offices there or whatever
A village in Switzerland is on greater level of technical sophistication than California

to be fair, the Swiss know a thing or two about keeping their finances in check.
If California became its own country, they will just think they can 'print themselves out of it'
(You know, if the Dollar is taken off as a world standard America will virtually collapse overnight)

Europeans spent milleniums *designing* things, and all of the sudden, whoop-de-doop, markets will make everything work on their own
