as far as being a pedophile or any of the -philes related to being attracted to youth, I think it says more about a person's self esteem than it does about their sexual preference.

2018-09-01 15:33:29 UTC

And self-esteem these days is at an all time laughable low.

2018-09-01 15:34:17 UTC

there's also the fact that society now treats adults as kids for a longer and longer time too

2018-09-01 15:34:39 UTC

there's no longer responsibility until you hit 25+

2018-09-01 15:35:07 UTC

while 50 years ago it wasn't uncommon to have marriges at a young age

2018-09-01 15:38:27 UTC

I don't think its society that treets the kids as kids longer. I think its the parents. Gen X is terrible about that.

2018-09-01 15:39:01 UTC

Society still says 18 years old for smoking, 21 for drinking. School, college, job. Nothing's changed there. Its the parents that have lagged.

2018-09-01 15:39:19 UTC

it's not just parents when laws are being put in place that also reinforce it

2018-09-01 15:39:28 UTC

what laws?

2018-09-01 15:40:04 UTC

in Europe there's a lot of changes to drinking age for example

2018-09-01 15:40:21 UTC

they are now trying to control what kind of drinks you can drink

2018-09-01 15:40:26 UTC

not just "alcohol"

2018-09-01 15:42:14 UTC

I'm not aware, but I do know 18 was the drinking age in the UK and some euro states so if they're changing it to 21 thats probably not all that bad. But going back to it being the parents faults, they're overprotective because the parents themselves were latchkey kids and didnt get enough attention from their boomer folks.

2018-09-01 15:42:24 UTC

Its an overreaction that has crippled kids

2018-09-01 15:42:25 UTC

colleges are also almost free in Europe too

2018-09-01 15:42:35 UTC

meaning kids don't even have to make a choice

2018-09-01 15:42:40 UTC

the default is college

2018-09-01 15:43:02 UTC

just as if it was high school, and without any added responsibility

2018-09-01 15:44:12 UTC

so you're saying *socialism* <:TimThink:482277772497125378>

2018-09-01 15:44:12 UTC

I mean that's always to blame.

2018-09-01 15:44:35 UTC

as an aside, drinking age has stayed the same (18) for a looong time in my country, but the amount kids drink has drastically gone down with the increase of social media

2018-09-01 15:44:54 UTC

in mine, the drinking age was 16

2018-09-01 15:45:05 UTC

they increased some drinks to 18

2018-09-01 15:45:17 UTC

basically you can only drink beer at 16

2018-09-01 15:45:32 UTC

I started parting at 15 tbh

2018-09-01 15:45:55 UTC

thats funny. but i'm an American and we gotta wait (legaly at least) til 21. we don't of course.

2018-09-01 15:46:14 UTC

don't most kids do it illegally though?

2018-09-01 15:46:29 UTC

yep

2018-09-01 15:46:32 UTC

because that's what happens in my country

2018-09-01 15:46:52 UTC

imo it doesn't make sense to say you can get drunk on beer

2018-09-01 15:47:00 UTC

but forbidden to do so with vodka

2018-09-01 15:47:20 UTC

also gets things very complicated for bars to comply

2018-09-01 15:47:54 UTC

also... drugs are available everywhere 😂

2018-09-01 15:47:55 UTC

the way they solved that around here is beer and weaker is 18, I think above 22% is 21 years

2018-09-01 15:48:11 UTC

bars and restaurants can sell to whatever to whoever is above 18

2018-09-01 15:48:53 UTC

and it makes a ton of sense to restrict higher alcohol content to more responsible people, alcohol poisoning is a real thing that can fuck you up bad

2018-09-01 15:49:21 UTC

making it illegal doesn't do shit though

2018-09-01 15:49:28 UTC

oh it definitely does

2018-09-01 15:49:53 UTC

growing up it was much, MUCH easier to just buy 20% liquor yourself than having a friend buy you 40% vodka

2018-09-01 15:49:56 UTC

only Bars pay the price, if they are caught
