I think part of it is just economies of scale

it makes no sense to download things if they're just online

this has been a big problem on the right for years, where people just completely vanish

a lot of them have been grifters

but others just disappear for no explicable reason and then all of their work is gone

while I agree that this is a particularly pronounced problem of the right, I think it's just a general problem with the nature of content creation on the internet

you can't ctrl+f part of a podcast

you can't search for a specifc line of text and see videos containing it

it's all dependent on the indexing and archiving talents of the producer

yeah that is definitely annoying

I imagine there's plenty of intelligent and insightful content out there that nobody has ever heard of

but at least if it is there you can go find it, even if slowly

maybe even content that's already been gone for ten years and nobody ever saw

like 80% of images posted to discussion forums from 2000 to 2015 are probably gone forever
