I guess it is the case the there is no way that territory could have been maintained
I mean its a big territory I don't think it was ever particularly profitable
Because it wasn't properly settled
I mean the US eventually did invade a bunch of colonies
although if Louisiana ended up as a free french territory that might have been more advantageous than the US owning it
The trade there was profitable
like Florida
I mean the current state not the rest of the region
I think eventually the US would have conquered it
yeah maybe and then there would have been bad blood
perhaps Napoleon avoided this in his deal
Like with Florida or the Mexican Secession
I mean you have a point Charlemange
just trying to present the opposite side
It might've but the impetus for US expansionism was the necessity for balance created through the purchase in the first place
Without the initial disturbance America might not have expanded at all
Balance as in slave and free states
I think they probably would have, Alaska is another issue though
I have ne idea what would have happened
if Russia didn't sell it
Japs
no doubt
between the world wars
or before
Russia would never cede it to Canada
No sale to the US means them holding on to it
Maybe the UK would have taken it during the civil war
Seems unlikely unless somehow the locals would've been Bolsheviks
I think there were only ever 700 settlers
I expect that Alaska would have ultimately ended up in the hands of the US via WWII
They did convert the natives though
Yes but negligable settlers
The U.S. would have made the Alaskan territory part of lend-lease or otherwise for it's assistance to Russia
I think longterm it would've become more Russian like Siberia did become
I wish they had just annexed cuba
I did enjoy your video yesterday
thanks
I have not read those books
However during the civil war it could've hosted a government in exile
Oh are you talking to someone else
lol
but I did watch Alt History Hub do videos on it
