Like China shutting down many of their most populated areas isn’t nothing

2020-04-09 17:49:32 UTC

America issuing quarantine rules isn’t nothing

2020-04-09 17:49:33 UTC

looking at the death toll in the US right now, it is about 30% of the average yearly flu death rate, which is quite variable

2020-04-09 17:50:15 UTC

however it seems obviously that this could easily surpass that if no non-pharmaceutical interventions take place, which would not be good.

2020-04-09 17:50:46 UTC

an additional 100,000 deaths could occur easily, and ofc this has snowballing effects via taking up health resources and other effects

2020-04-09 17:50:55 UTC

I am very tired of all the completely dismissive takes

2020-04-09 17:51:17 UTC

I’m sure that the potential death toll was slowed down by all the quarantine restrictions

2020-04-09 17:51:18 UTC

Ramz is just 401k posting. Stocks go down and the old X'ers forget everything.

2020-04-09 17:53:13 UTC

Lmao

"tie me to a missile and fire me at DOW 30,000. I am ready!" -Imam RamZ

2020-04-09 17:53:58 UTC

I never watched RamZpaul

2020-04-09 17:54:16 UTC

Always gave off an uncomfortable old man vibe

2020-04-09 17:55:03 UTC

definitely has helped

2020-04-09 17:55:12 UTC

idk what the veracity of this data is

2020-04-09 17:55:49 UTC

but according to this, with current quarantines measures, deaths will be about 60,000 which is actually on the very high end of flu deaths per year you see

2020-04-09 17:56:03 UTC

I liked ramzpaul before the corona virus stuff

2020-04-09 17:56:05 UTC

and of course, once quarantine ends, the spike will likely go back up

2020-04-09 17:56:14 UTC

I still like him but this is cringe

2020-04-09 17:56:34 UTC

only repeated or long quarantines will actually have a finalizing effect

2020-04-09 17:57:08 UTC
2020-04-09 17:57:14 UTC

Everyone will end up getting the worst of both worlds
The recession (which was anyway overdue) getting worse and the dead

2020-04-09 17:57:22 UTC

yeah

2020-04-09 17:57:27 UTC

unfortunately

2020-04-09 17:58:19 UTC

Makes me pessimistic in the long run when it comes to disease prevention

2020-04-09 17:58:19 UTC

as you can see, the 2017-2018 season was unusually bad

2020-04-09 17:58:30 UTC

and we seem to be on track to meet that

2020-04-09 17:58:31 UTC

Think of what would've happened if this was the big one

2020-04-09 17:58:37 UTC

_in addition_ to the flu season this year

2020-04-09 17:58:38 UTC

50+% mortality

2020-04-09 17:58:47 UTC

We'd be utterly fucked

2020-04-09 17:58:54 UTC

plus probably worse after the coronavirus blows up again when quarantines end

2020-04-09 17:59:19 UTC

I don't think there is much chance of any virus that lethal actually propagating

2020-04-09 17:59:55 UTC

3 million people die in the US every year, when at the end of the year the total amount of people who died with coronavirus is 1 million, and the total number is 3 million, will they say it killed a million people? i wonder

2020-04-09 18:00:15 UTC

they should

2020-04-09 18:00:27 UTC

It’s not gonna kill a million people in America

2020-04-09 18:00:30 UTC

HIV AIDS deaths come not from the virus but from other sources

2020-04-09 18:00:37 UTC

A million more would be pretty bad considering births can't keep up with that

2020-04-09 18:00:39 UTC

but it still is counted

2020-04-09 18:01:09 UTC

not to mention that most of those deaths will be 65+ people who tend to be white. So they will want to bring in a bunch of new "Americans"

2020-04-09 18:02:14 UTC

> It’s not gonna kill a million people in America
@Norik you misunderstand
if a third of the population gets infected and the group of those who died doesnt get more or less infected, then a million people will have died having the virus
