its kinda like people being fired in the workplace for making statements that are deemed contravercial before it may even have an impact that draws negitive attention on the bussiness. while i think i agree that concervitives have been targeted for much longer but i think that is making the statements by liberals more obvious because they are clearly more outragious but the problem is that the reaction is the same reguardless of your political stance, the reaction by the administation is the problem people are having because it is basicly saying "if you say the wrong thing you will be replaced"

In the military if you represent the military in uniform in ways they don't want to be rep'd, they can punish you. Colleges have the same ability with their professors, whether they have tenure or not.
Liberal staff outnumber conservatives 5 to 1 at universities, so I'm not entirely surprised that political firings skyrocketed for them
