Depends entirely upon whether you want your protagonist to be identifiable to the reader, or disliked by the reader. If he's made to be disliked, sure. Otherwise, Get Woke, Go Broke

All of my characters are completely apolitical (because most people are). They are entirely sympathetic, and pine for human desires which are attained only in an ideal, healthy Western civilization. That's how I prefer to move the reader toward my views.
