🤔

2018-12-11 11:31:15 UTC

No, the ability for government to print money only guarantees the constant expansion of state power.

2018-12-11 11:31:50 UTC

Inflation is just taxation without legislation.

```That socialism has displaced liberalism as the doctrine held by the great majority of progressives does not imply mean that people had forgotten the warnings of the great liberal thinkers of the past about the consequences of collectivism. It has happened because they were persuaded of the very opposite of what these men had predicted. The extraordinary thing is that the same socialism that was not only early recognised as the gravest threat to freedom, but quite openly began as a reaction against the liberalism of the French Revolution, gained general acceptance under the flag of liberty. It is rarely remembered now that socialism in its beginnings was frankly authoritarian. The French writers who laid the foundations of modern socialism had no doubt that their ideas could be put into practice only by a strong dictatorial government. To them socialism meant an attempt to "terminate the revolution" by a deliberate reorganisation of society on hierarchical lines, and the imposition of a coercive "spiritual power". Where freedom was concerned, the founders of socialism made no bones about their intentions. Freedom of thought they regarded as the root-evil of nineteenth-century society, and the first of modern planners, Saint Simon, even predicted that those who did not obey his proposed planning boards would be "treated as cattle".
-F.A Hayek, The Road to Serfdom.```
can you imagine me being too tired to read that entire paragraph but still being extremely interested in it
2018-12-11 12:01:42 UTC
There's a cartoon version of the whole book.
2018-12-11 12:04:53 UTC
The French and most of the west EU countries are force fed socialist propaganda for almost a century. So we can dream of educating them now. But if they cut the "economic" crap out of those demands and leave the anti-immigration only, that still would be better than nothing...
2018-12-11 12:17:22 UTC
They only need 1 demand: denationalise money!
2018-12-11 12:18:46 UTC
```"Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows."
-George Orwell, Nineteen Eighty-Four.```

2018-12-11 12:20:39 UTC

and what? have a "Fed" like private institution to control that?

2018-12-11 12:20:59 UTC

Literally the opposite of what I am saying.

2018-12-11 12:21:36 UTC

An institution like the fed can't exist in a free market.

2018-12-11 12:21:48 UTC

Neither can fractional reserve banking.

2018-12-11 12:22:01 UTC

which is pretty similar

2018-12-11 12:22:06 UTC

so "gold" money?

2018-12-11 12:22:10 UTC

or crypto?

2018-12-11 12:22:57 UTC

Whatever the market decides.

2018-12-11 12:23:21 UTC

How do you think money emerged in the first place, government decree?

2018-12-11 12:24:06 UTC

sure, but and how do you propose to transfer now from gov. controlled money to that of the free market? Reset everything?

2018-12-11 12:24:50 UTC

Violent revolution seems necessary, the French are halfway there, but chances are they'll fuck it up.

2018-12-11 12:25:19 UTC

ah... ok, now I see

2018-12-11 12:27:45 UTC
2018-12-11 12:28:31 UTC

I don't think the violence is the way. In the end the toughest force will win and in most cases it ends badly... I thought more of like introducing better "money" that can outcompete with the govt. money ... we just need the way to block gov. from meddling with it by legal means

2018-12-11 12:29:58 UTC

Well, cypto does potentially make violence avoidable, or at least will minimise the extent to which it will be used.

2018-12-11 12:31:44 UTC

but on the technical side of cryto: it really struggles now to overcome some serious limitations (like the replication of transaction chain). We need better crypto and that's what the smart poeple should focus on now.

2018-12-11 12:32:25 UTC

Yep, there are even ways to access the internet without an ISP.

2018-12-11 12:33:15 UTC

Well, without paying an ISP, you get the free rider problem with that.

2018-12-11 12:34:36 UTC

...in which country?

2018-12-11 12:35:25 UTC

I haven't tested the tech, and I've only heard a really basic explanation of how it works. Still only used by hackers.

2018-12-11 12:36:00 UTC

I'm really interested in it 😄

2018-12-11 12:36:16 UTC

any hints on how to dig deeper on this?

2018-12-11 12:36:16 UTC

I wouldn't trust it.

2018-12-11 12:36:34 UTC

I'll try to find where I found it.

2018-12-11 12:38:22 UTC
2018-12-11 12:38:54 UTC

There's a link in the description. This is literally all I've heard about it.

2018-12-11 12:39:33 UTC

Again, I wouldn't trust it. Use at your own risk.
