if you want to send money around

2018-12-17 19:23:12 UTC

use Bitcoin Dash

2018-12-17 19:44:20 UTC

im just hoping someone makes a crypto patreon

2018-12-17 19:44:33 UTC

that can take any type, and just pays it to people

2018-12-17 20:03:32 UTC

Peterson is moddin' his platform for it

2018-12-17 20:03:41 UTC

I believe that will be enough for now

2018-12-17 20:06:27 UTC

I'm actually fucking surprised by the % patreon is taking

2018-12-17 20:06:53 UTC

if I knew people were ok with that much, I would have focused on creating a platform myself

2018-12-17 20:10:43 UTC

Many of these people are also okay with YouTube taking 30% of Super Chats.

2018-12-17 20:13:51 UTC

They are ok with it because there isn't tough competition.
Just look at steam. They were taking just as much.
Now epic pushed it to 22%
and now discord has pushed it to 10%

2018-12-17 20:14:16 UTC

We'll probably see epic and/or steam also lower their take to match discord

2018-12-17 20:17:03 UTC
2018-12-17 20:19:04 UTC

Why would anyone pick anything above 1.

2018-12-17 20:21:14 UTC

What's the most you would bid for itch service to prevent itch from folding up?

2018-12-17 20:28:18 UTC

@devpav youtube is a different matter

2018-12-17 20:28:36 UTC

Youtube has a large platform that someone has to pay for

2018-12-17 20:28:44 UTC

video IS expensive

2018-12-17 20:34:39 UTC

lol. im not crying for google anytime soon

2018-12-17 20:35:31 UTC

I don't think Google cares at all about the cost of operating YouTube.

2018-12-17 20:35:43 UTC

you realize that they have like 100 billion in Cash

2018-12-17 20:35:49 UTC

thats more than most countries

2018-12-17 20:36:08 UTC

the content on google is worth far more than the cost of managing youtube

2018-12-17 20:36:58 UTC

just like managing it wouldn't count as a rounding error with numbers like that

2018-12-17 20:37:24 UTC

but peterson is a hero for what him and dave reubin are trying

2018-12-17 20:38:19 UTC

Thats why they could care less about deplatforming anyone

2018-12-17 20:38:21 UTC

or what anyone says

2018-12-17 20:43:20 UTC

I wasn't arguing for google

2018-12-17 20:43:25 UTC

YT doesn't make a profit

2018-12-17 20:44:03 UTC

so, even while taking 30%, there couldn't be a competitor that takes less than that

2018-12-17 20:45:10 UTC

let's please not go with the commie argument of "but they have so much money and are so rich"

2018-12-17 20:45:58 UTC

if a bakery is rich, you are still not entitled for free bread

2018-12-17 20:47:21 UTC

That's why alternatives take advantage of torrents and blockchain. Crowdsource the operational costs through passive participation

2018-12-17 20:49:55 UTC

I'm not disagreeing there. The thing is, there's no way to get a platform to the size of Youtube with those technologies

2018-12-17 21:00:25 UTC

I don't think there needs to be a YT sized platform tbh. Multiple competing platforms would work just as well, and if you want cringey normie content just gb2 YT

2018-12-17 21:00:52 UTC

Those people probably largely don't care if they're getting mined

2018-12-17 21:01:22 UTC

I know people who bought multiple Alexa spypucks

2018-12-17 21:06:17 UTC

I like the kind of wild west internet we had. But the possibility to reach a high audience decreases by a lot

2018-12-17 21:22:13 UTC

We don't *KNOW* if Youtube makes a profit because their income is not publicly disclosed. We don't know how much they make off of deals with shit like latenight shows, how much they make to promote products outside of ads, how much they make selling data. Even still Youtube doesn't need to make a direct profit to be profitable. The information they gain on their users is increasing their profit in other sectors, and they are increasing their corporation's power through Youtube which can be used to make wealth in other ways.

2018-12-17 21:23:18 UTC

If they didn't see it as profitable in some way they wouldn't pour so many resources into it.
