or idk that sort of era of soldier

2018-07-12 03:14:44 UTC

That's pretty much discredited

2018-07-12 03:14:48 UTC

oh ok

2018-07-12 03:14:55 UTC

It was proposed by SLA marshall who was an absolute hack

2018-07-12 03:14:59 UTC

oof

2018-07-12 03:15:03 UTC

most robbers are to afraid to shoot ive heard

2018-07-12 03:15:28 UTC

soldiers in 16th century idk

2018-07-12 03:15:35 UTC

well i mean if you're breaking the law, it makes sense

2018-07-12 03:15:45 UTC

escalates things a lot

2018-07-12 03:15:47 UTC

etc

2018-07-12 03:15:49 UTC

yea

2018-07-12 03:15:49 UTC

it was about ww1 I believe

2018-07-12 03:16:07 UTC

2*

2018-07-12 03:16:15 UTC

honestly i wasn't sure about the time, i just pictured bayonets and extrapolated

2018-07-12 03:16:49 UTC

A big part of the effectiveness of bayonets was that nobody wanted to fight with bayonets

2018-07-12 03:17:11 UTC

at least when we're talking muskets

2018-07-12 03:17:38 UTC

so it was rare for anyone to actually have to fight with them; most charges resulted in the enemy retreating

2018-07-12 03:18:09 UTC

wait what

2018-07-12 03:18:10 UTC

oooooh

2018-07-12 03:18:25 UTC

lmao i thought you meant that not even the attackers wanted to fight with them

2018-07-12 03:18:45 UTC

so two bayonet armed forces would just charge each other, tentatively stop and reconsider the whole thing

2018-07-12 03:18:52 UTC

haha

2018-07-12 03:19:17 UTC

"you know what, I don't want to get stabbed, you don't want to get stabbed, let's just all go home"

2018-07-12 03:20:27 UTC

they shake hands, play soccer for a bit then turn around

2018-07-12 03:41:32 UTC

Usually when theres a bayonet charge, the side on the receiving end would usually brake ranks due to fear

2018-07-12 03:42:19 UTC

one of the big reason why the American civil war was so much more bloody than the usual European conflict of the time was because the soldiers on both side would shoot each other all day long instead of charging in and finishing it quickly

2018-07-12 03:44:12 UTC

Do we know why they chose to do it that way?

2018-07-12 03:44:18 UTC

trench warfare too

2018-07-12 03:44:51 UTC

also rifled weapons

2018-07-12 03:44:59 UTC

Oh yeah, they did start using trenches in the civil war didn't they?

2018-07-12 03:45:06 UTC

change of tactics

2018-07-12 03:45:10 UTC

yep

2018-07-12 03:45:20 UTC

I remember seeing a really neat trowel bayonet that was tested out for a while

2018-07-12 03:45:26 UTC
2018-07-12 03:46:14 UTC

yea bayonets changed too

2018-07-12 03:46:59 UTC

sapping used in this

2018-07-12 03:47:13 UTC

blew up a portion of the trenches

2018-07-12 03:47:23 UTC

@Schedrevka American officers lacked training and experience, resulting in slow orders when aggression was needed. This is stem from the culture of isolationism and distrust of standing army america had in its early period

2018-07-12 03:47:40 UTC

What was the purpose of plug bayonets? It seems like a socket type or even a built in offset bayonet just would be a no brainer

2018-07-12 03:48:14 UTC

Also Confederates were all veterans by the end because once you join and/or were conscripted you stayed
