But once you've been an adult for a certain amount of time and you never stop to reflect on your beliefs then it's hard to have much respect. And that doesn't mean I hate them even if I hate their beliefs.
I would say that after a certain point, it is hopeless.

One of the stooges had a photo of Hitler taped to his back. So when he turned to run away the officers would go "HEIL HEETLAH" and then he himself would turn around to say "Heil" prompting the attack again, only to run away again, repeating the process.
